Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the original proof-of-work blockchain, launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto as a decentralized system for peer-to-peer digital payments without intermediaries. Its fixed supply of 21 million BTC and strong security model have made it the foundation of the cryptocurrency industry. The network is further extended by the Lightning Network, a Layer 2 solution enabling fast, low-cost micropayments.
